JULY 19, 2910 -- “Communication is the heart of any organization,” Department Membership Chair W. Michael Bowen told the New York American Legion Press Association’s awards luncheon Friday afternoon, July 16, at the Genesee Grande Hotel in Syracuse.
“The men and women in this room today can lead not only the American Legion, but any organization, in communication.” He urged the association, with 158 members, to beef up its own recruiting and at the same time help the Legion get the word out. “This organization has the opportunity to explode the American Legion, the Auxiliary and the Sons.” Awards Chair Dolores Reed announced winners of the association’s annual communications contest, including Utica Post 229 and its webmaster Bob Stronach, who took first place for Legion website. (Full list of winners below.) The NY American Legion Press Association (NYALPA) holds its annual meeting and awards presentation in conjunction with the annual department convention. Outgoing NYALPA President Kevin Harrington turned the gavel over Patrick Rourk, who was elected president for a one-year term at the meeting.
